Privacy Policy

What we collect

Nothing. WherePut has no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising and no third-party SDKs that phone home. The developer cannot see your items, your photos, your locations or how you use the app.

Where your data lives

Items, locations, photos, notes, loans and expiry dates are stored in the app’s own database on your device. They are included in your iPhone’s encrypted device backup if you have one, and are otherwise never copied anywhere.

You can export a full backup to a file at any time. That file goes wherever you send it — the app does not upload it.

Permissions the app asks for

• Camera — to photograph an item while you are putting it away. Photos stay in the app.
• Microphone and speech recognition — only while you are dictating an item name. Transcription runs on the device.
• Notifications — only if you set a loan due date or an expiry reminder. Reminders are scheduled locally; nothing is sent through a push server.

Each of these is optional. Declining one disables that feature and nothing else.

On-device intelligence

Item recognition, text extraction from labels, barcode reading, semantic search and the plain-language answers all run on your iPhone using Apple’s frameworks. None of it involves a network request.

The optional cloud model

If you switch Ask to cloud mode in Settings, you supply your own API key and endpoint. Only then does the app make a network request, and only to the endpoint you entered. Each request contains your question and the handful of items that best matched it — their names, location chains, quantities and notes. No photos are ever sent.

Your API key is stored in the iOS Keychain and is never transmitted anywhere except to the provider you configured, as the request’s authorization. Turning cloud mode off stops all network activity; deleting the key removes it from the Keychain.

What that provider does with the request is governed by their privacy policy, not this one.

Spotlight and Siri

So you can find things without opening the app, WherePut donates item names and their location chains to the on-device Spotlight index. That index belongs to iOS and stays on your device. Removing the app removes the entries.

Purchases

WherePut Pro is sold through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and tells the app only whether you have an active purchase. Your name, card and Apple Account details are never visible to the app or to the developer.

Children

WherePut is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated date at the top of the page changes with it, and material changes will be described in the app’s release notes.
